Ross Erb has just ended his time as Youth Pastor at Park View Mennonite Church. He worked there for 13 years, and is moving on to other things. He has been a great influence in my life, helping me grapple with questions of faith, being there through hard times, and teaching me the importance of humor!
The head Pastor at PVMC asked me on Wednesday to write a song for the 'Ross Roast' event that took place on Sunday. This is what I came up with.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, saves the world from sure disaster,
cleaning up with MDS, duty calls, Ross says yes.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, he will never be outclassed nor
will he be soon forgotten, 13 years, that's pretty awesome
Here I now propose a toast, Here's to Ross, a Ross Roast.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, there he goes he's skating backwards,
15 youth all in a line, he whips the tail, they all go flyin.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, wakes up early, that's a fact for
those of us who ride the bus, don't keep him up late, he might fuss.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, always wants to foster laughter,
subtle jokes like vines a climbing, nails a punchline, perfect timing.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, take a youth before and after,
they went through his motley crew, you're sure to see they grew and grew.
(Spiritually and mentally, not just in heighth and girth)
Here I now propose a toast, Here's to Ross, a Ross Roast.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, jumped into the Great Lake faster,
than his phone could flee his side, could it be fixed? Well Jordan tried.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, took his flock to greener pastures,
summer service trips and such and conferences we love so much.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, circus swing a ring master,
he'd corral and take a bow, then he'd demand, Pow, Wow, How!
(For those of you who don't know, 'Pow, Wow, How' is a debriefing tactic. Pow- What was difficult about your experience? Wow! What was awesome? How? How did you see God?)
Here I now propose a toast, Here's to Ross, a Ross Roast.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, children's time the children gather,
Allergies can make him stuffy, everybody loves old Scruffy.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, crossed the generation gap for
Sunday School for many years we'd hear from those who weren't our peers.
Ross Boss, Master Pastor, a better Pastor I couldn't have asked for,
(but) now his time has come to leave, let's cheer him on although we grieve.
Here I now propose a toast, Here's to Ross, a Ross Roast. x2or3
